Service members who receive the Armed Forces Service Medal or the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal are not eligible for the Humanitarian Service Medal if it is for the same period of service
The AAM can be granted in a combat area
This medal is generally granted only to officers that hold at least the rank of Major General
Both of these badges required the recommendation of a commander and had to be accompanied with a citation
