It is used in auto racing to lift the helmet off the driver's shoulders and provide cushioning between the helmet and the shoulder blades or chest. The round tapered wedge design measures 1 3 4" in height at the front and 2 1 4" at the rear. The fully closed measurement allows for a maximum neck size of about 17",
