It was popularized by Ree Gardens, a Florida nursery founded by Marie and Steve Nock in 1976 and closed in 2023. This clone shows traits of the canal zone ecotype, including dark, velvety leaves and compact growth. Some U. S. growers believe it may be the same as the plant referred to by Jay Vannini as A. papillilaminum 'Fort Sherman',
