It is known for its vibrant purple to pink hues and lustrous pearly sheen. Its characteristic pink, purple, or lavender hues are caused by impurities of manganese and other trace elements that become trapped in the crystals as they grow. In its purest form, lepidolite is colorless or white, however pure specimens of lepidolite are extremely rare.
